Background

While many of The Global Summit's elements evolved through producing organization, Empowerment Works (founded in 2001), TGS became a formal initiative in February 2007 immediately following EW's participation in the World Social Forum and program visit to Zimbabwe.

The disparity between the world's social, economic and environmental movements, and EW's long-term dedication to multi-sector collaboration as a solution, inspired The Global Summit event series. Since that time thousands of hours have been invested by dedicated volunteers and partner organizations from all corners of the earth to bring it to life.

The founding strategy committee members Jeff Buderer (oneVillage Foundation), Jenny Huang (International Free and Open Software Foundation), Rick Pinckert (USC Annenberg School of Communications) and Irving Sarnoff (Friends of the United Nations) all contributed hugely with their time, integrity and expertise to The Global Summit vision and functional design. Seven Star Events' Joseph and (sister) Georgia Malki also contributed countless hours to planning its launch.

The Global Summit Policy System was inspired by Stefan Cibian, a PhD student of Central European University, Budapest.

Its three part evaluation system was developed by Marie Stojimirovic - an international volunteer who earned three scholarships from France to Venice, CA. to intern with Empowerment Works.

The Global Summit brand was developed pro-bono by jungle[8] - a leader in conscious messaging and design. This web-site was completed by a group in Colombia, South America, supported by an Italian volunteer based in London.

As The Global Summit evolves, we seek to expand opportunities for people, organizations and businesses across the globe to bring the best of their resources to the table for the benefit of humanity.
